Privacy Policy
Cruise — last updated 2026-05-04
Cruise is built around a simple promise: your trip data stays on your device unless you explicitly choose to sync it. We do not sell, share, or monetize your data. There is no third-party analytics, no advertising SDK, and no behavioral tracking.
What stays on your phone
By default, all of the following is recorded and stored locally in the app's private database. Nothing leaves your device:
- Location (GPS coordinates, speed, altitude, heading) — used to score smoothness, draw your route, and label the trip.
- Motion (accelerometer, gyroscope) — used to detect lateral, longitudinal, and vertical jerk for the smoothness score.
- Heart rate (read from Apple Health, with your permission) — used to correlate physiological state with driving smoothness.
- Weather (Apple WeatherKit) — annotates each trip.
- Speed limit (looked up via map services) — used to compare your speed to the posted limit.
- Voice notes & photos (only if you explicitly create them in-app) — stored locally with the trip.
What can leave your phone (only if you turn it on)
- Amber sync — if enabled in Settings, Cruise sends a daily aggregated summary (totals, averages, score, no raw GPS or audio) to the Amber wellbeing API associated with your account. You can disable this at any time. The data is held under the Amber privacy policy.
- Apple system services — location and weather queries are made through Apple's frameworks (CoreLocation, WeatherKit), which Apple operates under its own privacy terms.
What we do not do
- No third-party analytics (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Sentry).
- No advertising identifiers, no IDFA, no fingerprinting.
- No selling or sharing of personal data with anyone, ever.
- No background tracking outside of an active driving session.
Permissions, in plain language
- Location (When In Use & Always) — required to record a trip. "Always" is requested only so trips can continue when the screen is locked or another app is in use; we do not use background location to track you when no trip is active.
- Motion & Fitness — required for the smoothness score.
- Apple Health (read) — optional; declined by default. Used only to pull heart rate during a recorded trip.
- Microphone — optional; only used when you tap to record a voice note.
- Camera — optional; only used when you tap to attach a photo to a trip.
- Bluetooth — optional; used to auto-start a trip when your phone connects to your car.
Your control
You can delete any trip at any time from the app. Deleting a trip removes it permanently from the device. If you have Amber sync enabled, the corresponding daily summary may persist in your Amber account until you delete it there.
You can disable any permission at any time in iOS Settings → Cruise.
Children
Cruise is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page will be revised, and a notice will appear in the app on next launch.
